It is important to ensure that the installation of a Wood Burning Stove is carried out by a competent person and we recommend that any work to be carried out should be performed by a HETAS registered installer. A HETAS registered stove installer will check the chimney and verify that it is suitable and advise on addition remedial work may be required to make the chimney compliant. The registered installer will also provide a commissioning certificate on completion of the works.

HETAS is the official body recognised by Government to approve biomass and solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services, including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses. Registered installers are trained and approved to UKAS standards and can self certify that their work complies with the relevant building regulations.

A Gas Safe registered engineer holding the relevant qualifications must be used when installing a new gas appliance. Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey, appointed by the relevant Health and Safety Authority for each area. By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register.

Failure to use a Gas Safe registered engineer when fitting a new gas fire will invalidate any warranty and more importantly, is likely to put yourself and your family in serious danger. Gas fires should also be safety checked once a year and serviced regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
